| Young guys starting out in radio don't make much money, so three of us working at WKBO shared renting a row home in Harrisburg. The other guys were more concerned about domestic stuff, so they made most of the home decisions, like that I should have the worst bedroom of the three. The room was small and hot in the summer. It was small and cold in the winter. They hired a housekeeper to come in weekly to clean the place. But, after a few weeks, it seemed like my room wasn't being cleaned. My roommates told me, the housekeeper refused to clean my room until I straightened it up first. One of my roomies had a boy and girl friend come to our house for a visit and they planned to stay overnight. His attractive young lady friend appeared to have only a platonic relationship with the guys. However, the men acted like they had more than a friendly shot with her. Their mistake (and my lucky break) that evening was to go to bed before she and I did. Rather than sleep on the living room couch as planned, she decided to spend that winter night with me in my bedroom. When we got up late the next morning, we knew everyone was waiting for us to come downstairs. She didn't want to face them, but I said, don't worry I'll handle it. They were all seating on the couch, coldly staring up at us, as we slowly walked down the stairs. So to break the ice, I said... |
